Play The Forest School Way: Woodland Games, Crafts and Skills for Adventurous Kids by Jane Worroll & Peter Houghton is written as a guide for parents, teachers and guardians looking to bring some of the principles and activities of Forest School into their time with their kids. It works whether you’re looking to bring some goals and activities into outdoor play with just your own kids, or for a group in an informal Forest School scenario or even kids’ party.

The book starts with an introduction to the concept of Forest Schools and their principles and is then split into 4 main sections: Nature Explorers, Forest Arts, Survival Skills and Wildlife Team Games. Each section includes 5-8 Forest School activities, with the suggested ages and number of participants, the kit needed and what is learnt about with the activity.

I found the book helpful, easy to dip in and out of as needed. I read it as a library book, but it’s going to be added to our collection. The instructions and illustrations are clear and easy to follow and I see it being something to refer to for inspiration for a while to come.
